This does not mean that a daily breakfast of steak and eggs plus an occasional tuna fish sandwich is the best diet for men to avoid BPH. The equivalent of 2 or 3 eggs a week (and no red meat at all) is probably enough to avoid an omega-6 fatty acid deficiency.
Men who follow strict vegan diets or who eat fish or take fish oils on a daily basis who are concerned about BPH should have a blood test including a fasting lipid profile measuring the ratio of arachidonic acid (AA) to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). If the AA/EPA ratio is lower than 1.5-a very rare condition in the United States-reducing the consumption of fish oils or considering the consumption of meat or sugar is indicated. Men with an AA/EPA ratio below 1.5, however, are extremely unlikely to have BPH. Men with an AA/EPA ratio above 15, on the other hand, are extremely likely to develop BPH.
If you eat meat, add 2 or 3 servings of cold-water fish a week or 2-3 grams of pharmaceutical grade fish oil or DHA from microalgae to your diet. Reduce your consumption of red meat to no more than 1 serving a day and your consumption of eggs to no more than 1 a day. Simultaneously reducing omega-6 fatty acid consumption from meat and eggs and increasing omega-3 fatty acid consumption from fish or other sources reduces inflammation in the prostate. Until you have your AA/EPA tested, err on the side of eating too little red meat.
Soy products are also frequently recommended for BPH. Scientific testing shows that consumption of soy reduces the weight of the prostate without lowering sex drive-in rats. Since rats do not get BPH (humans and dogs are the only animals that get BPH), it is premature to suppose that soy helps this condition.
Even strong supporters of the use soy products in the diet maintain that rates of BPH in countries where soy products are an important part of the diet have not been confirmed by hard evidence, and it possible that lower incidence of BPH in these countries is to eating fewer calories rather than to eating more soy. And in countries where soy is common in the diet, it is eaten in small quantities, less than half an ounce (15 grams) a day. Just a little soy would be enough.

Prostate Cancer Research Studies Vote 'Soy Yes, Dairy No'
Controversy abounds on this topic; however, numerous studies over the past decade have shown a solid connection between the risk of prostate cancer and dairy consumption. A cohort study just published in mid 2005 by the American Journal of Nutrition showed that men with the highest dietary intake of dairy foods were 2.2 times more likely to develop prostate cancer than men with the lowest dietary intake of dairy foods.
Prior theories circled around the increase in IGF-1 (insulin growth hormone) seen in milk drinkers. High levels of IGF-1 have been directly linked to various hormonal cancers. Although this theory may still hold some validity, research has uncovered a potential cause that has further heated the debate on dairy and prostate cancer, calcium. The same study referenced above showed a 2.2 times increase in prostate cancer risk for men with the highest dietary calcium intake over those with the lowest. Another study in 2001 observed over 20,000 men, and concluded that men who consumed more than 600mg of daily calcium from dairy products had a 32% higher risk of prostate cancer than men who consumed less than 150mg of daily calcium from dairy products. This came as quite a shock, since the USDA recommends a minimum of 1200mg of daily calcium for men over 50, and 1000mg for men aged 19 to 50. These studies have spurred more medical research into this possible dairy calcium-prostate cancer connection.

Before we do that, I would like to cover some of the basic rules of thumb. First, you should keep your meals at about 500 calories or less. Run away from any fats or alcohol if you can. Do not consume more than 22 grams of fat per day. Cancer likes calories and both of these provide that to it. Stay away from meat in general. If you are going to eat meat, don't eat red meat at all. Limit your meat intake to a couple of days a week. Studies done by the Adventist Health group states that people who eat meat as a major part of their food intake are twice as likely to get colon cancer and the National Cancer Institute says that men who eat red meat 5 times a week are five times as likely to get prostate cancer. Drink about 2 quarts of water a day. If you want to drink something other than water, stick with green, red and white teas, not black teas. Get your fiber.
It is recommended that you get at least 30 grams of fiber a day when you have cancer. If you can't get it through foods, take a supplement. They have all kinds on the market that actually do taste pretty good now. Avoid oils that are high in Omega 6 fatty acids, such as corn, safflower, cottonseed and soybean oils. Why? Because they are associated with an increase in the number of tumors found in the body, according to Simpoulos, a doctor who specializes in cancers. You should limit your intake of calcium. This means that you should also limit your milk intake to 2 glasses a day. Men who consume more than 2000 mg of calcium a day, approximately 8 glasses of milk, have a higher chance of getting prostate cancer than those who drink less then 1/4 that amount. Other dairy products such as cheese, ice cream and yogurt should be taken in at a minimum, also. Dairy products have been proven to show a 50% increase in risk of getting prostate cancer. Green Tea and Prostate Cancer and the Italian Study
Green tea and prostate cancer is something that scientists have been studying now for about ten years. Although different studies have shown slightly different findings all of them apart from the FDA have agreed that de-oxidized tea provides good protection from developing prostate and other forms of cancer.
The Italian Study
An Italian study led by Salverio Bettuzzi, PhD, which was undertaken by two universities showed just how effective this extract is in protecting men from developing prostate tumors. Their findings showed that the catechins in un-fermented tea were able to give a massive 90% protection rate from the disease.
The green tea and prostate cancer study was undertaken with a group of 62 men with ages ranging from 45 - 75 and that had a condition that would normally, within a year lead to developing malignant prostate cells. The group was split into three and two thirds of them were given 200mg of the extract three times a day. The rest of the group were given a placebo.
At the end of 6 months the groups were examined and biopsies were taken. Only one person from the group that had received the extract developed the disease while 9 men from the smaller group developed prostate cancer.
