What is bacterial prostatitis?Infection of prostate glands with bacteria is called bacterial prostatitis that it could be chronic or acute.
What is acute and chronic bacterial prostatitis?
ACUTE BACTERIAL PROSTATITIS
This occurs when you have urine infection and the symptoms starts very fast.
Symptoms include:
Prostate pain that could be very serious and affect areas like penis, anus and lower back. It may also reach the testicles.
Urine symptoms include painful urination, frequent urination, urgent urination, and blood in urine.

After some time, the infections develop slowly into the deeper area of genital organs.Symptoms are not as severe as in acute state and the symptoms may just last for a long time.
Symptoms may include:
Painful symptoms that could be less serious but still irritable to most patients.
Irritation in urinary system that you will have mild pain when urinate, sometimes the urgency to urinate or unable to urinate or weak urine stream.
General bad feeling of tiredness, pain and aches.
Prostate texture maybe tender but could also be very hard with swelling.What causes bacterial prostatitis?
Bacteria are the comon cause of prostatitis that is infected from sexual contact or other means. Some bacteria could move up the urethra and infect the prostate, kidney urethra, bladder and other urinary organs. Cystitis is also very common symptoms of prostatitsi. Blockage of urine also could lead to risk of urinary tract infection.
There are also some rare cases that the prostate is damaged and vulnerable to infection, this could be the prostate surgery. Cathether treatment may have bacteria travel to the prostate if not properly sanitized. Bacteria from blood of other infections could also attack the prostate area.Do I need any tests?

Chronic state of prostatitis, the urine test is useless because no bacteria is present in urine most of the time. DRE is done to collect prostate fluid by vigorously masage the prostate with gloved finger until the fluid is pushed out into the urethra and comes out from the penis, and then the samples are collected and tested for bacteria. If bacteria are positive, it shows the infection of bacteria.What is the treatment for bacterial prostatitis?
Usually four weeks or antibiotics is the common treatment for prostatitis. The choice of antibiotics must be determined depending on the result of lab tests so that antibotics is specific to that bacteria.What is the outlook?
The outlook for acute prostatitis is very positve that a proper treatment with antibiotics is very effective in clearing out the infection. However, it is very critical that the full course of treatmet must be followed. If not properly handled, there is a risk that you may become chronic.
Chronic prostatitis may also be cleared with antibiotics but with a much lower chance, relapse is very common and could become resistant and persistent despite repetitive treatments.
