IntroductionChlamydia is a kind of small bacteria that spread through sexual contact. Most people don't have signs and symptoms of Chlamydia infection. The signs and symptoms are mild and show up in a few weeks.
As many as four million people in US have infections of Chlamydia. It is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases. This disease affects men and women of all age group, sexually active adult and teenagers.
Chlamydia is easy to treat if you seek treatment early, If you don't get proper treatment, it could have a very serious damage to your genital organs.Signs and symptoms
The symptoms of Chlamydia infection is very mild that you may not notice it in early stage. When you notice it, it is usually a few weeks later.
Some signs and symptoms of Chlamydia infections are, painful urination, lower abdomen pain,discharge from tip of penis, vaginal discharge, painful sexual contact.Causes
The bacteria that is causing the problem is Chlamydia trachomatis. This is spreaded through sexual contacts.
Medical adviceWhen you notice discharge from your penis or vagina, painful urination, then you should treat Chlamydia immediately before it could affect other parts of your body. Also bring your sexual partners for treatment too. After several weeks of treatment, the symptoms will subside.
DiagnosisChlamydia infection must be treated immediately to avoid chances of other health damage. You should have screening tests for that. If you have the following behavior you have a high risk.

Multiple sexual partnersScreening and diagnosis of chlamydia:
- Urine test. Sample from your urine is for analysis to find out the presence of Chlamydia
- Culture swab. This is for female that a swab of discharge from vagina and then send for test for presence of Chlamydia
Complications
Chlamydia and other health problems:
- Rectal inflammation. Rectal infection may cause rectal pain and mucus discharge if chlamydia is infected during anal sex.
- Epididymitis.
Epididymitis may cause fever, swelling and scrotal pain and inflame the epididymid.
Prostatitis. Fever, chills, painful urination, lower back pain and pain during and after sex are all the symptoms of prostatitis if Chlamydia spread to your prostate glands
- Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID may have no sing or symptoms, it is infection of uterus and fallopian tubes and may affect ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubes, cervix. If left untreated abscesses and scarring may occur in fallopian tubes and ovaries and that may eventually lead to infertility. There could be chronic pelvic pain, and constant infection. Women become infertile may be the cause of PID
- Eye infections. Conjunctivitis is the infection of chlamydia on the eys. You may have accidentally touched the eyes
- Infections in newborns. For pregnant women you may pss chlamydia infection to your child during delivery and may cause pneumonia or eye infection.
Treatmentprescription antibiotics erythromycin, tetracycline or doxycycline azithromycin (Zithromax) could treat chlamydia infection. Your partner also must be treated for chlamydia infection. They may have no signs of infectiona but a test must be done to make sure it is clean. If untreated, the infection may come back after sexual contact.
Prevention
- sex partners. Sexual contacts with multiple partners is a high risk behavior that may put you at risk of chlamydia or STDs infections.
- Regular screenings. Regular lab testing for STDs if you are sexually active or have sexual contacts with multiple partners
- Use condoms. Condoms may help reduce the chance of chlamydia infection but there is not 100% sure that you will not get infected.
