Introduction

Chlamydia is a kind of small bacteria that spread through sexual contact. Most people don't have signs and symptoms of Chlamydia infection. The signs and symptoms are mild and show up in a few weeks.

As many as four million people in US have infections of Chlamydia. It is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases. This disease affects men and women of all age group, sexually active adult and teenagers.

Chlamydia is easy to treat if you seek treatment early, If you don't get proper treatment, it could have a very serious damage to your genital organs.

Signs and symptoms

The symptoms of Chlamydia infection is very mild that you may not notice it in early stage. When you notice it, it is usually a few weeks later.

Some signs and symptoms of Chlamydia infections are, painful urination, lower abdomen pain,discharge from tip of penis, vaginal discharge, painful sexual contact.

Causes

The bacteria that is causing the problem is Chlamydia trachomatis. This is spreaded through sexual contacts.

Medical advice

When you notice discharge from your penis or vagina, painful urination, then you should treat Chlamydia immediately before it could affect other parts of your body. Also bring your sexual partners for treatment too. After several weeks of treatment, the symptoms will subside.

Diagnosis

Chlamydia infection must be treated immediately to avoid chances of other health damage. You should have screening tests for that. If you have the following behavior you have a high risk.

No condom during sex
Multiple sexual partners

Treatment

prescription antibiotics erythromycin, tetracycline or doxycycline azithromycin (Zithromax) could treat chlamydia infection. Your partner also must be treated for chlamydia infection. They may have no signs of infectiona but a test must be done to make sure it is clean. If untreated, the infection may come back after sexual contact.
